The film will tell about Operation Dynamo, the effort to save 300,000 Allied soldiers from the French port of Dunkirk after the German forces invaded the country. The rescue effort was undertaken by the British Navy, as well as hundreds of small fishing and pleasure boats commissioned between May 26 and June 4, 1940.
The trailer opens with British soldiers getting leaflets dropped by German planes, urging them to surrender before cutting off soldiers bombarded on the beaches of the port. The film seems to be simpler than Nolan’s recent work, which relied heavily on twists and pesky concepts. It sounds like a more grounded story, but not without the eye of Nolan for spectacular visuals.
Dunkirk will land on the theaters on July 19, 2017.
